Employment Assistance Fund
The Employment Assistance Fund (EAF) provides reimbursements to eligible people with a disability who are working, about to start work, or who are self-employed, but are struggling with aspects of their work, and can fund changes related to workplaces, equipment and support services. Support services include workplace assistance and support services – ‘specialised support and training for people with mental health conditions or learning disabilities. This is tailored to meet the needs of the person and help them overcome any barriers at work’ which is great news for those with ADHD and underdeveloped Executive Function skills. Someone struggling with time management, organisation and prioritising, and experiences stress or burnout may seek coaching to support them in their work or when job seeking. ADHD coaching falls under Specialist Mental Health Support and an eligible person can receive up to $1610 per year to put towards their coaching sessions.
The Application Process
Step 1 → Check your eligibility and what costs the EAF covers. To be eligible you must:
- have a disability that has lasted or will last at least 2 years, and limits, restricts or affects your ability to work
- be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- have a job or been offered a job, where the work will continue for at least 13 weeks
- be working 8 hours per week, or have been working at least 8 hours per week for 13 weeks if you are self-employed.
Step 2 → Submit an application for the EAF through JobAccess Secure, under Specialist Mental Health Support and upload supporting documentation. You’ll need a few details about the employer and the services you need and your MyGov ID to create a new registration at JobAccess Secure. For more information on eligibility, costs and applying visit ‘Applying for the Employment Assistance Fund’ on the JobAccess website.
Step 3 → Once submitted, the application assessment can take up to 10 days. You will then receive a form to send to us, where Sophia will add in relevant details about your situation and how coaching will help you at work. Then send the completed form back to JobAccess.
Step 4 → Following application approval, you can attend your coaching sessions! After each session, send the paid invoice to JobAccess and get reimbursed! The EAF Guidelines explain the full reimbursement process.
We will be available throughout the process to help you through it or you can contact a JobAccess Adviser: 1800 464 800 or fill out an online enquiry form.
